photoDan Zanes' story is one of a rock 'n' roller who found a second career when he decided to make kids' music that parents could enjoy just as much as their little ones. A former member of the Del Fuegos, a Boston-based group that was named "Best New Band" by Rolling Stone in 1984, Zane retired from rock in 1991, got married, and became a father. He soon discovered the joy of making music for kids with other parents, and started a band and record label dedicated to the concept of kids' music that's enjoyable for adults. His first CD for kids, Rocket Ship Beach (2000), launched his own record label, Festival Five Records. The CD was an immediate hit with families around America, as well as with the New York Times Magazine, which said, "kids' music works because it is not kids' music; just music, music that's unsanitized, unpasteurized, that's organic even."

His next CD, Family Dance (2001), was comprised of songs that are difficult not to dance to, and featured Loudon Wainwright III and Rosanne Cash. Next in the Festival Five family series came Night Time! (2002), featuring collaborations with Aimee Mann and Lou Reed, followed by the Grammy-nominated House Party (2003), a rambunctious twenty-song collection that includes Deborah Harry, Bob Weir, and Philip Glass. Catch That Train won the 2007 Grammy Award for Best Children's Recording. Dan's latest release is The Fine Friends Are Here!, a live concert DVD.

Dan's use of eclectic instruments and blend of original songs with traditional American roots, folk and West Indian tunes will tickle the kids and the kid in you, too!

"His albums are hip enough for Debbie Harry and Lou Reed to make cameos but accessible enough for the under-ten set to sing along... this is good ol' fashioned pop music for all ages."
