In a world of labels Da Terra Meiga (translated into English as "from the witches' land") refuse to be categorized. With roots in Northwestern Spain, Cuba, the Southwestern USA, Western Africa and Australia, Da Terra Meiga bring the complete musical experience from all corners of the world.
Da Terra Meiga feature vocals, guitar, percussion, Djembe and didgeridoo. Originally from Spain, they have relocated to Albuquerque. Da Terra Meiga's first album, Guitar and Voice, was recorded at Youngblood Production Studios in Albuquerque, and it features five original songs in Galician that were written by Rubén Cortiñas and Laura Cruz.
"The songs are of love and tradition," says Cortiñas. "Because the songs are in Galician, it gives us a chance to showcase our language to the community. We've lived in Albuquerque for four years and have really become a part of the community. We've been welcomed into it."
They are currently working on their second album, The Witch's Bitches.
This is the latest in a monthly series of free events in collaboration with the Friends for the Public Library.
