A beautiful complement to this concert would be a visit to the exhibit Appearances Deceive: Embroideries by Policarpio Valencia at the Museum of International Folk Art. You can also explore the cultural history of Lone Piñon’s music by taking a virtual tour of the Museum of International Folk Art's previous Música Buena: Hispano Folk Music of New Mexico exhibit.
With Hot Carne Seca, streaming May 29 from Jalopy Records (Brooklyn, NY), Lone Piñon celebrates a fresh collection of traditional norteño repertoire arranged in dialogue with each other and with their live audiences, encapsulating dynamic moments from stages throughout New Mexico and across the country. In order to capture the energy and live chemistry of the group, they travelled to Eunice, LA, to record with Joel Savoy, Grammy-winning producer, Cajun musician and cultural activist, who is an expert at capturing the warmth and dynamics of live acoustic string bands. The album was recorded with beautiful vintage equipment without overdubs or multi-tracking to stay as close as possible to what it feels like to be in the room with this music and culture: joyful, organic, and full of life.
